Ibach, Switzerland 1891 Master Cutler Karl Elesner created the solider knife. During the 20th century Karl adopted his mothers name Victoria and the legendary shield and cross as the trademark for his knives. The now known name of Victorinox came for the French word for stainless steel inoxydable and Elesner's mother's name Victoria. Swiss army knife became the term during World War II when the US soldiers couldn't pronounce the Swiss names. The popularity of the Swiss army knife has led to over 100 variations with the same original quality.
